Immanence

I have an upcoming exhibition with fellow artist Lynore Avery. The show is entitled “immanence” which in a nut shell is the existence of the Devine in all things. My paintings in the show are on fabric on canvas collected from my travels overseas in the last few years. Fabric seemed to be the perfect metaphor for exploring the interconnection between all things; the fabric of the universe. The works are layered and vibrant,  as is my way and reveal more of the themselves the longer you look. I love how shadows or glimpses of Thai or Indonesian fabric can be seen, but are mostly obscured by layers of paint, colour and line. Faces rest in reflection, or gaze directly at the viewer hinting at hidden emotions. Plants from my yard also plays a prominent role, some true to form and others altered to create skeletal structures, through which other layers of colour and design can be seen.

Opening night is the 19th of November from 6-8pm. Details are on the invitation below.please come along, I’d love to see your lovely faces.

Studio Tour

Here is a video of my creative space built at the end of November last year. After years of renting damp, dank studio spaces in dilapidated factories or constantly packing and unpacking materials in the home I share with my partner and three kids, I finally have my own creative space. It’s not huge, but it has changed my creative life for the better in so many ways. I hope you enjoy this video and are perhaps inspired to carve out your own creative space in your home or backyard shed or if you have the means to build.

Why Draw?

I love to draw! I started drawing way before I was able to write and it’s still one of my favourite things to do. In this video I talk about why drawing is such a valuable tool to nurture creativity. I hope you enjoy it and as always,

Art Journaling

I thought I’d try something a bit different and post a video, rather than writing my blog. I loved how immediate the creation of a video is, though I have to say, the upload took a ridiculous amount of time! As always I follow my usual mantra of being “perfectly Imperfect’ and all things considered, I think it turned out really well. Big thanks to Ben for overcoming those sneaky technical issues, that threaten to dampen (or tsunami) my enthusiasm!

Till next time.

And maybe give art journaling a try, you never know where it might lead!

Exhibition Gratitude

Tired and grateful are the two words that best describe me at the moment. I’ve climbed a personal mountain. I set myself the goal of putting my insecurities aside to create a collection of work and show it.  I hog tied and muzzled my internal critic and committed to the idea that being perfectly imperfect would be enough. I’ve learnt so much along the way. I’ve met kind, generous, talented people like Lynne Pearce at “That Framing Place” in Balmain and photographer Theresa at “Fine Art Imaging”  I’ve been overwhelmed by the love and support from friends, family and total strangers who made time to come to the exhibition, share a glass of wine, their thoughts and their money to encourage and celebrate my efforts. I appreciate every kind word more than you will ever know and I’m excited to continue creating as I’ve got lots of plans in the works! Stay tuned!Beyond The Surface Opening 055IMG_2188 Beyond The Surface Opening 052 Beyond The Surface Opening 054
